It all started when Lawd Ito had two big goals – to play his music with a big salsa band and to headline a Knitting Factory show in 2020, and boy did he accomplish that goal! Ito makes music that connects him to his Latino culture. His track, Aguanile, is his way to bring his ancestors to his generation. When they played the song, Ito’s background became one with everyone’s background. The Skyline Salsa band is a 13 member orchestral salsa band from Jersey City, NJ. While a couple of members were missing that night, they still filled the stage with 10 bandmates, and all their individual instruments: bongos, trumpets, guitars, saxophones, vocalists, the drumkit and a keyboard. Ito took the stage by storm and brought passionate energy to elevate his performance. He commanded the attention of the audience and conducted the band to precision. Even with eleven different people on stage, Ito still found ways to dance all around them. The band played every note with purpose; even the drummer was on his feet! One of the biggest highlights of the night was when Ito brought everything down to express concern for his home country, Puerto Rico and the earthquakes affecting them. Ito took up a collection and is still doing so on his social media pages. This concert was a Sound the Groove Production.
