“Hearts Open” is the passion project of the bands’ front man, Michael Manzi. Michael draws on the styles of many types of rock bands throughout the ages. You can hear influences from Bruce Springsteen to Maroon 5 to Hozier in his fantastic guitar riffs, and upbeat melodies. Michael took the stage with his band mates: Brandon on drums, Ben on guitar and Lily on the bass. Michael’s positive vibes not only come through his music, but in his body as well. There wasn’t a single moment where Michael was still — every moment he was strumming, dancing, or strutting about the stage. All the musicians were extremely talented, and the band put on an incredible show. They filled the entire venue, which is impressive for an emerging band at 10:30PM on a Wednesday night (even for New York City)! About more than halfway through the performance, Michael decided to turn it down for a few minutes. The band took a break, and Michael took out his acoustic guitar to play his most popular single, “Copper” — which the audience immediately recognized. It was easily one of the highlights of the night. Michael is currently studying psychology and neuroscience at NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Studies, as well as specialized study in different fields of music, writing and art. His mission to learn more about “love” as a state of mind, rather than just being the connections we make with each other. Michael hopes to apply his studies to his artistic expressions, and use his music to help people fall in love with falling in love every day. Michael currently has two tracks, “Copper” and “Too Good to Believe”, available on all streaming platforms.
